INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS CASE COMPETITION

WINNER

During the beginning of my senior semester, I was selected to represent West Virginia University in New Orleans, LA along with three other extremely intelligent individuals. We were given 4 months to prepare 3 different presentations, a 30 minute presentation, 10 minute presentation, and 90 second presentation, on one ethical topic. We chose 3D printing and the future of its technology, discussing how one may find this method unethical, but the different areas in which 3D printing can be ethical and beneficial to our futures. This competition required a lot of time, and cooperation outside of the classroom. We all had to take time to meet and practice with each other, and also our advisors for the competition, Dr.Suzanne Kitchen & Katie Hannah, spent time away from their own professional endeavors and families to assist us with preparing as well. Our trip was funded completely by one of West Virginia University’s extremely notable professors, Dr. David Cale of the Business Ethics department at West Virginia University.

Dr.Cale’s Business Ethics course is a requirement for all students obtaining a degree in the College of Business and Economics. Dr.Cale does an amazing job making sure students from West Virginia University graduate from college, and lead with ethics and integrity. This experience was definitely very valuable to my future, because this is not something that is commonly spoken about in today’s world. After competing in three different rounds for the International Business Ethics Case competition, we ended up winning 2 out of the 3 categories. This was truly enlightening, because we all worked extremely hard to prepare for the competition, and to see our hard work pay off and represent the University in a very important competition was truly an honor.
